Dreamy pop music with real softboy vibes, that's how I would describe Dreamgirl. They gained popularity after their breakout EP "Illuminaughty", especially with their swoony song called "Teenage Blue". But they're not stopping there! With a new album on the horizon they still made some time to talk to me about their music.

Can you give me a small summary of the band? (The members, your sound, etc.)
We're a landlocked synthy surfpop band from Missouri. Ian Dobyns on drums, Skylar Smith on guitar and synth, Lacey Hopkins on vocals, synths and guitar and Austin Marks on guitar, vocals, synths and sometimes bass. We don't quite have a true bassist right now; our friends Joe Gronniger (from Toughies, our favorite band from Lawrence, KS) and Grady Drugg (of Importer/Exporter and his own band under his name, Grady Philip Drugg) fill in.Ā
You just finished your tour, how was it?Ā
It was great! We got to play a lot of cities we'd never played in before, and with a lot of bands we loved. On the second day of tour, while we were in Richmond, VA, we found out that Ian's car had been involved in an accident back home in Kansas City and was totaled. That wasn't cool. But other than that, we had a lovely time on the East coast, and can't wait to go back.Ā
Whatās the best part of being in a band?
Playing music with friends.Ā
Whatās your favorite fan interaction?
It's always heartwarming to hear fans' stories of what they associate our music with.Ā
Which one of your songs are you most proud of?
Thatās a tough one - itās like being asked to pick which child you love the most. Theyāre all our babies. But maybeĀ āWeekend 4 The Girls,ā as itās the first song we wrote in this phase of the band.
Any big plans for the future?
We're working on a new album.
If you had to describe Dreamgirl in one sentence, what would it be?
"A family of friends lost in a dream,ā which isn't a complete sentence, but thatās what it is.Ā
Whats the golden tip for aspiring musicians?
Make music for yourself and stick with it, youāre doing great.Ā
